Miracle cure for baldness?

Monday, January 23rd, 2017 Rich Mele

A cure for baldness could be on the horizon after a new drug was found to restore hair growth in around four months for people diagnosed with Alopecia Areata, an auto immune disease which causes patchy hair loss patterns in men and women.

The researchers at Columbia University Medical Center found 75 percent of patients with moderate to severe hair loss showed “significant hair regrowth”after taking the drug ruxolitinib.

The study involved 12 patients with moderate to severe alopecia areata, suffering more than 30 per cent hair loss. All the patients took the drug twice a day for three to six months. Nine of the patients showed hair regrowth of 50 per cent or more.

The Columbia researchers said they now plan to test the drug on pattern baldness which is the most common type of baldness. This is very promising in the constant battle to find a cure for hair loss.
